Test Findings of Age, Body Mass Index and Metabolic Syndrome Risk Factors by Fasting Blood Sugar and Blood Lipids levels of Industrial Male Workers
Lee Hye-Ja

Abstract
Metabolic syndrome is a complex cluster of conditions that is a major cause of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease. Major risk factors for metabolic syndrome include hyperglycemia, abdominal obesity, hypertension and abnormal lipidemia. The purpose of this study is to observe changes in age, BMI and metabolic syndrome factors depending on fasting blood sugar and blood lipid levels. In order to understand the effects of metabolic syndrome risk factors on levels of FBS, TG, and HDL-C, the data of 855 industrial male workers was obtained and analyzed. The results were as follows: According to BMI 37.7% of the subjects were normal and 62.3% of the subjects were overweight or obese. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was observed in 16.7% of the subjects. The means of WC, SBP, DBP, FBS, TG, and HDL-C levels of the subjects were all within the normal range. The hyperglycemia group had higher means for age, BMI, WC, SBP, DBP, FBS, and TG levels than the normal group, whereas the HDL-C levels of the hyperglycemia group were lower than the normal group. On the other hand, the hypertriglyceridemia group had higher means for age, BMI, WC, SBP, DBP, FBS, and TG levels than the normal group, however the HDL-C levels were also higher than in the normal group. It was observed that the lower the HDL-C level among the subjects, the higher the average age, BMI, WC, SBP, DBP, FBS, and TG level there was. Generally there was a positive correlation between age, BMI, WC, SBP, DBP, FBS, and TG, but HDL-C showed a negative correlation with age, BMI, WC, SBP, DBP, FBS, and TG.
